Quati

This funny guy is a quati (or coati), a member of the raccoon family. In tupi language quati means pointy nose. This picture was taken in a household at Lago do Camuin a small community 8h away from Portel (Para, Brazil). He was treated as a pet by the people there, but he was also helpful in many tasks around the house. He went fishing; he helped people bring cassava roots to make farinha, and was always undoing knots and messing with clothes, bags, foods, and people’s heads (in every sense of it).
